New Delhi: The Centre has approved the inter-cadre deputation of 1995-batch IAS officer Rajeev Singh Thakur from the Rajasthan cadre to Manipur, where he has been appointed as the Chief Secretary.

Thakur’s appointment comes at a time when Manipur is focused on strengthening governance, relief and rehabilitation measures, and improving administrative coordination following prolonged ethnic violence.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved his deputation by relaxing the existing policy provisions. Thakur will remain in the post until June 30, 2029, when he is scheduled to superannuate.

In addition to his responsibilities as Chief Secretary, Thakur will hold the additional charge of Chief Vigilance Commissioner and Principal Resident Commissioner, Manipur Bhawan, New Delhi.

Thakur has more than three decades of administrative experience spanning district administration, state-level assignments and senior positions in the Central government. During his tenure in Rajasthan, he served as District Collector of Banswara, Bhilwara, Alwar, Karauli and Sri Ganganagar. He has also handled responsibilities related to rural development, livelihood projects and food and civil supplies.

At the Centre, Thakur served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence and the Department of Military Affairs before being appointed Additional Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). His Central government experience also includes assignments in the Ministries of Rural Development, Road Transport and Highways, and Railways.

Prior to his deputation to Manipur, Thakur was serving as an Adviser at NITI Aayog, a position he assumed in February 2025.
