New Delhi: The State Government of Uttar Pradesh has appointed Arvind Kumar (Retd. IAS) as new Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) on July 14. With his new appointment as Chairman of UPERC, Kumar has replaced Raj Pratap Singh, who completed his term as the UPERC Chairman on June 30.
Kumar is a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of 1988-batch. Previously, he was posted as Advisor to the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for Industries. He played a pivotal role in organising 'UP investors summit' in Lucknow.
Kumar retired as the infrastructure and industrial development commissioner on February 28, 2023. Among other important roles, he has served as Additional Chief Secretary in the Power Department till he was moved to the Industrial Development Department in February 2021. In May 2022, he was appointed the infrastructure and industrial development commissioner.
Kumar holds a B Tech in Electrical Engineering and M Tech in Communication and Radar Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT) Delhi. He has also held the positions of District Magistrate in districts such as Farrukhabad, Sitapur, Azamgarh and Deoria, and served as the commissioner of Gorakhpur and Basti divisions in 2005-2006.
