New Delhi: Rupesh Kumar Thakur (IAS) has been selected for the appointment as Director in the Ministry of Labour & Employment on Tuesday. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Thakur has been selected for the appointment as Director in the Ministry of Labour & Employment under the central staffing scheme for a period of five years with effect from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He was recommended for the central deputation by the Ministry of Home Affairs. "He may kindly be relieved of his duties immediately with instructions to take up his new assignment in the Mb Labour & Employment," the order further read.
Thakur is a 2006-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the AGMUT cadre. Presently, he is serving as Member (Admin) Delhi Jal Board (DJB). He is an Engineering Graduate (B. Tech in Civil Engineering) from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. He has severed various important positions in his home cadre. Prior to joining the union government, he was serving as Secretary in the Department of Rural Development, Goa.
The Ministry of Labour & Employment is one of the oldest and important Ministries of the government. The main responsibility of the Ministry is to protect and safeguard the interests of workers in general and those who constitute the poor, deprived and disadvantage sections of the society, in particular, with due regard to creating a healthy work environment for higher production and productivity and to develop and coordinate vocational skill training and employment services. The government's attention is also focused on the promotion of welfare and providing social security to the labour force both in organized and unorganized sectors, in tandem with the process of liberalisation.
