Sanjay A Lathkar (IPS) appointed as Director General (Security) in Department of Atomic Energy

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Sanjay A. Lathkar (IPS) as Director General (Security) in the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). He is a 1995-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Jharkhand cadre.

According to an order issued with reference to the Department of Atomic Energy ID Note No. 13/2/2026-CCS/7488 dated June 25, 2026, Lathkar will hold the post at Level-16 of the pay matrix.

His appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge and will continue until his superannuation on September 30, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

As part of the appointment, the existing post of Inspector General (Security) in the Department of Atomic Energy will be temporarily upgraded from Level-14 to Level-16 in the pay matrix. The upgradation will take effect from the date Lathkar joins the post and will remain in force up to July 25, 2028, completing the third year, as a measure personal to the officer.

The approval has been granted by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on the proposal of the Department of Atomic Energy.

An alumnus of IIT Bombay with an M.Tech and a Ph.D., Lathkar has built a distinguished three-decade career bridging academic excellence with high-stakes law enforcement.

Throughout his service, he has spearheaded vital internal security operations, notably leading successful counter-insurgency and anti-Maoist campaigns as ADG (Operations) in Jharkhand and within the CRPF and Maharashtra ATS. His exceptional leadership and unblemished record in high-risk zones have earned him the prestigious President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service twice (2002 and 2022), alongside the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (2015).
