New Delhi: Ministry of Power's Joint Secretary Tanmay Kumar (IAS) has been appointed as Government Nominee Director on the board of NHPC Limited with effect from June 11. As Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Power, he is looking after the transmission sector, POWERGRID, POSOCO (Power System Operation Corporation Limited) and Grid Integration of renewable energy amongst other assignments. Kumar is a 1993 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre. Currently, he is also Government Nominee Director on the board of SJVN Limited and POWERGRID.

Tanmay Kumar's profile

Tanmay Kumar (IAS) is an IITian. He has done engineering (B Tech in Civil Engineering) from llT-Delhi. He also did masters of engineering (M Tech in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering) from llT-Delhi. He has served in various capacities in the state government of Rajasthan for about 27 years. He was Collector and District-Magistrate of Bharatpur, Alwar and Kota continuously for more than 6 years. He then served in the Chief Minister's Office for three years in the first instance as Deputy Secretary, Special Secretary and then as Secretary to the Chief Minister. Later, Kumar served as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister for five years (2013-2018) in the second instance.

During his tenure, he won a number of awards for spearheading several reforms in the field of public administration and effective policy implementation. Tanmay Kumar has also served as Chairman of Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RRECL) for five years. He has a rich and varied experience of the power sector, having worked with the Chief Minister, Rajasthan who was also the Energy Minister.

NHPC Limited

NHPC Limited, formerly known as National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited, was incorporated on November 7, 1975, as a Central government enterprise for the development of hydropower. It is a Miniratna PSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power. NHPC Limited, a premier hydropower company and a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Power. The company had paid an interim dividend of Rs 840.96 crore to the government for the financial year 2019-20.
