New Delhi: Senior bureaucrat Vikas Sheel, a 1994-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, is set to take over as the next Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh.
Sheel was appointed as Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Manila, in January 2024 for a three-year tenure. However, the Government has recalled him within 16 months of his deputation. According to a Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) order issued on September 12, Sheel was formally relieved from his ADB posting within 24 hours of the recall.
He will succeed Amitabh Jain, the present Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh, who is scheduled to superannuate this month. The formal appointment order of Sheel as Chief Secretary is awaited.
An engineer by training, Sheel holds a B.E. and a Master’s in Electrical Engineering. Over the course of his career, he has served as Collector in Koriya, Bilaspur, and Raipur, and has held key assignments in Education, Food, General Administration, and Health in the state secretariat. At the Centre, he was closely involved in pandemic preparedness as Additional Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, and later spearheaded the Jal Jeevan Mission as its Mission Director in the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
