BVN Prasad appointed as CMD of Cement Corporation

New Delhi: BVN Prasad has been appointed as full-time Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Cement Corporation of India Limited (CCI), a PSU under the Department of Heavy Industries, on Friday. The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment for a period of five years with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post, or till the date of his superannuation ie, April 30, 2021, or until further orders, whichever is the earliest. Prior to this, he was serving as Director (HR) of CCI and was also holding an additional charge of the CMD's post.

Prasad was recommended for the post of CMD of CCI by a Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on December 12, 2018. He was selected from a list of two candidates who were interviewed by the selection panel.

Education & background

Prasad is a Science postgraduate (M Sc in Mathematics). He also holds LLB and MBA (HR). He joined CCI on January 19, 2016, as Director (HR) and was later given additional charge of the CMD's post. Prior to joining CCI, he has worked in Steel Authority of India Limited's (SAIL) Bhilai Steel Plant. His experience in SAIL included establishment matters, human resource information system, contract labour management etc. He was a regular faculty in the area of HR for imparting training in the training department.

Cement Corporation of India Limited (CCI)

Cement Corporation of India Limited (CCI) was incorporated as a company wholly owned by the government on January 18, 1965, with the principal objective of achieving self-sufficiency in cement production. The authorised and paid-up capital of the company is Rs 900 crore and Rs 811.41 crore, respectively.

CCI, at present, has three operating units with an installed capacity of 14.46 lakh MT per annum. In line with the advancement in cement technology, CCI has been adopting the latest one with one million tonne plants at Tandur. Bokajan unit at Assam is under expansion.

CCI manufactures various types of cement, like Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC), Portland Slag Cement (PSC) & Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) of varying grades viz 33, 43,53 and 53S (special grade cement for the manufacture of sleepers for Indian Railways) grades under strict quality control with the brand name of CCI Cement.
