Cabinet clears appointment of Samiran Dutta for BCCL’s CMD post

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Samiran Dutta to the post of Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL). BCCL is Miniratna PSU and the subsidiary company of Coal India Limited under the Ministry of Coal. According to an order issued from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Dutta has been appointed to the post for a period with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post till August 31, 2025, i.e. the date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Dutta is currently serving as Director (Finance) of BCCL. Additionally, he has also been holding the additional charge of the Director (Finance) post in Coal India since July 1. On July 27, Dutta appeared for Coal India's Director (Finance) post and was selected for the role by the PESB panel. He was among six candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel that day.

Dutta is an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). He began his career in the coal industry in August 1988 with Bharat Coking Coal Limited, Dhanbad. Later he got transferred to Coal India Limited, Kolkata in April 1990 and thereafter served there in different capacities. He was promoted to the post of General Manager (Finance) in January 2018. He took over the charge as Director (Finance) in BCCL with effect from July 18, 2019.
