New Delhi: Commander Shantanu Bose IN (Retd.) is set to be the next Director (Shipbuilding) of Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE), a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Defence. He has been recommended for the post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on Wednesday. He is currently serving as General Manager (Man Works & Project) in the same organisation.
Bose has been recommended for the post of Director (Shipbuilding) of GRSE from a list of six candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel. There were a total of four candidates who were on the list were from GRSE and two candidates were from the Indian Navy.
Shantanu Bose is a graduate in Naval Architecture & Ship Building Technology from Cochin University of Science and Technology and a post-graduate from IIT Delhi, where he was awarded the Vice Chief of Naval Staff Silver Medal. He is an alumnus of the College of Naval Warfare and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management. He was commissioned in the Corps of Naval Constructors of the Indian Navy in 1989. The officer has been commended by the Chief of Naval Staff and the Commander-in-Chief Andaman & Nicobar Command. He has commanded Navy Shipwright School, INS Vishwakarma from where he retired from active naval service in Jan 2013.
At GRSE Shantanu Bose was involved from 2013 to 2016, in the construction and commissioning of Indian Naval Ships Kamorta and Kadmatt (ASW Corvettes).
As Director (Shipbuilding) of GRSE, Commander Bose will be a member of the board of directors and reports to the Chairman & Managing Director (CMD). Apart from being a member of the top management group advising CMD and the Board of Directors generally on all issues, he would be specifically responsible to hold the complete charge of the shipbuilding division including personnel and financial management related to the development of design as per customers' requirements, estimation, submission of tenders and finalisation of contracts, as well as interaction with the customers on their existing and future requirements etc.
