Congress gives adjournment notice over disinvestment of PSUs

Congress has given an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha over indiscriminate disinvestment of PSUs
New Delhi: Congress has given an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha over “indiscriminate disinvestment of PSUs,” said a news wire. An adjournment motion is an extraordinary motion, which if admitted by the Speaker of the House, leads to setting aside of the normal business to make time for a discussion on a matter of urgent public importance.

The backdrop

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) gave an ‘in-principle’ nod on November 20 to the strategic disinvestment of five PSUs — Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Shipping Corporation of India; Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), Tehri Hydro Power Development Corporation (THDCIL), and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO). The decision came as the government is chasing its disinvestment target of Rs 1.05 lakh crores for financial year 2019-20.
