New Delhi: JSW Energy has said that the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has permitted the uprating of its Karcham Wangtoo Hydro Electric Power Plant from 1,000 MW to 1,091 MW. In a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges on Friday, JSW Energy said that the uprating will be carried out in two phases for two monsoon seasons in calendar year 2021 and 2022. "The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has permitted uprating of the Karcham Wangtoo Hydro Electric Power Plant owned by JSW Hydro Energy Limited (100 percent subsidiary of JSW Energy Limited) from 1,000 MW to 1,091 MW in a phased manner ie 1,000 MW to 1,045 MW in the first phase for two monsoon seasons in CY 2021 and CY 2022, and to 1,091 MW thereafter," said the filing.
JSW Energy said that the capacity uprating of the Karcham Wangtoo hydro electric power plant has been done by nine percent without any additional expenditure. "This capacity uprating has been done by 9% to 1,091 MW without any additional capital expenditure, and is a significant boost to the earnings potential of this key asset of JSW Energy Limited," said the company.
According to JSW Energy's website, the Karcham Wangtoo plant is located on river Satluj in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, and has a generating capacity of 1,091 MW. It was commissioned on September 13, 2011. Its diversion dam is located at village Karcham and the powerhouse is located near village Wangtoo on NH-5.
