New Delhi: To mark the occasion of International Women's Week, Vodafone India launched "Idea Sakhi," a mobile app that aims to tackle safety-related concerns of women in the country. Accessible on both smartphones devices and basic feature phones, the mobile application is a free of cost service available to all women customers. Idea Sakhi offers three features that could prove to be highly useful for women in emergency situations — Emergency Alerts, Emergency Balance, and Private Number Recharge, the company said in a statement.

This service, which will be extended to all 22 circles in March, has already been made accessible to women customers of Idea in Delhi, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Assam in North East, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Can work without voice, data balance

The mobile app works not just on all smartphones and feature phones, but has the function to run even without voice or data balance.

"Technology can help overcome barriers and solve problems in the life of the consumer. With almost half of our population being women, and 59 percent of them using a mobile phone, we are in a unique position to extend the benefits of technology for their safety and security," Avneesh Khosla, Operations Director, Marketing, Vodafone Idea, said.

"With Idea Sakhi, we are taking forward our long-term commitment of driving inclusion and deploying technology to serve a social purpose."

How to register and activate Idea Sakhi:
