COVID-19: IREDA adds Rs 15 crore in PM CARES Fund

New Delhi: To deal with Coronavirus (COVID-19), a deadly disease which emerged as global pandemic and speared over 180 countries in the world, Miniratna renewable energy PSU, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) has come forward to fight the virus. The company has released Rs 15 crore to Prime Minister's citizen assistance and relief in emergency situations (PM CARES Fund) for the fight against the coronavirus pandemic from its corporate social responsibility (CSR) fund.

"IREDA has always supported and stood-up wholeheartedly to help the people in distress in times of such crisis," the PSU said in a statement.

This amount would be a part of Rs 925 crore, which is committed collectively by all PSUs under the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy. The amount of Rs 925 crore includes the contribution of Rs 905 crore from PSUs under Ministry of Power and contribution of Rs 20 crore from the PSUs under MNRE.

Lauding the efforts of these PSUs, Union Minister for Power & New & Renewable Energy said, "We feel honoured to share that the Public Sector Undertakings of the Ministry of Power & MNRE have decided to contribute Rs 925 crore to the PM- CARES fund with INR 445Cr being deposited on 31st March and remaining in the first week of April."
