CSR Watch: Power PSUs contribute Rs 22.50 crore for flood-hit Uttrakhand

New Delhi: Union Minister of Power RK Singh on Tuesday presented a cheque of Rs 22.5 crores to the Uttarakhand Minister of Disaster Management DS Rawat in New Delhi, with the virtual presence of Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami. Seven Power PSUs including NTPC Limited, REC Limited, PFC Limited, Power Grid, NHPC Limited, THDC Limited and SJVN Limited have together contributed a sum of Rs 25.5 crore from their CSR funds towards relief works in flood-ravaged Uttarakhand.

The Power Sector PSUs, in their bid to stand united for the restoration works in the flood-hit Uttarakhand, contributed a sum of Rs 22.50 crore to the Uttar State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA). The total contribution includes Rs 8 crore from NTPC, Rs 5 crore REC Limited, Rs 4 crore PFC Ltd, Rs 3.5 crore from Power Grid, Rs 1 crore NHPC, Rs 50 lakhs from THDC and 50 lakhs from SJVN Limited.

Singh applauded the swift action taken by the Power sector PSUs to support the state of Uttarakhand. He conveyed the strong commitment of the central government to support Uttarakhand, especially in this time of crisis. He also appreciated Power PSUs for coming forward to support people in times of need as done during the COVID-19 crisis as well.

Dhami expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards the Power Minister and thanked all PSUs for their commitment to the state in times of crisis.

Ministry of State for Power Krishan Pal Gurjar, Secretary (Power) Alok Kumar and CMDs of Power PSUs were also present at the event.

Recently, Uttarakhand witnessed unusually high and unprecedented rainfall in some places on October 17 and 18, resulting in loss of lives and severe damage to infrastructure and public utilities in many districts.

The event was held in the presence of Secretary Power, CMDs of all the power sector CPSEs and key officials of the Ministry of Power. The following CPSES made contributions to the USDMA showing their solidarity and support to the development works to undertaken in Uttarakhand.

Activities under the project will be for reconstruction or restoration work in 478 schools in eight districts (Bageshwar, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Pauri, Chamoli, Almora, Champawat, & Pithoragarh) and 28 Health Centres in five districts (Almora, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital & Pithoragarh) of Uttarakhand. The project will be executed by the USDMA from the financial support extended by the Power Sector PSUs under their CSR funds.
