HPCL to invest Rs 16.01 crore in digital education infrastructure at 29 EMRSs in Rajasthan

New Delhi: Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) will provide financial support of up to Rs 16.01 crore to strengthen digital education infrastructure at 29 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) in Rajasthan.

The initiative, being undertaken as part of HPCL's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, will be implemented through the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC).

The project aims to improve access to technology-enabled learning for tribal students in remote and educationally disadvantaged areas and bridge the digital divide.

Under the initiative, the 29 EMRSs will receive 116 smart boards, 584 desktop computers with four-year warranty/AMC, 584 UPS systems and 290 tablets pre-loaded with coaching material for competitive examinations.

The project will also provide audio-visual equipment, internet connectivity, printers, air-conditioning systems and computer tables. The initiative is expected to benefit students studying in Classes VI to XII by providing improved access to digital learning resources and technology-enabled classrooms, besides supporting their preparation for competitive examinations.

The MoU between HPCL and NSTFDC was signed in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, NSTFDC and the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS).

Ranjana Chopra, Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, highlighted the role of education in enabling multi-generational progress and empowerment. She said EMRSs are creating opportunities for tribal students to pursue higher education and diverse career options, and expressed confidence that the initiative would further strengthen access to digital learning and technology.

K. S. Shetty, Director (Human Resources), HPCL, said education is an important enabler of social and economic progress and that the company's CSR initiatives focus on creating meaningful and sustainable opportunities for communities, particularly in developing regions.

"Through this initiative, we aim to strengthen digital access for tribal students in Rajasthan and equip them with the knowledge, technology and resources needed to pursue their aspirations with greater confidence," Shetty said.

The project is aligned with Item (ii) of Schedule VII of the Companies Act, 2013, relating to promotion of education. It also falls within HPCL's CSR focus area of education and is aligned with the Department of Public Enterprises' CSR themes for CPSEs, particularly the use of equipment, infrastructure and digital learning tools for livelihood enhancement.

Through the initiative, HPCL said it aims to support more inclusive and equitable access to education and strengthen educational opportunities for tribal communities.
