New Delhi: PowerGrid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Power, has been awarded a corporate social responsibility (CSR) award for its project on rural development. The award was given for 'Improving Rural Livelihoods through Farmer-centric Integrated Watershed Management.' The project was termed as an outstanding achievement in communication innovation in CSR at the all-India media conference organised by LS Sansthan and Mohanlal Sukhadia University in Udaipur, Rajasthan, recently. The award was received by POWERGRID's General Manager (Corporate Communications) Naresh Kumar at the event. He also addressed a gathering of 300 professionals, academicians, practitioners from across India on 'CSR Communication in Digital Era' as a panelist. Powergrid was also awarded the 'PMI India award 2019' for its contribution to the community for the same project at Hyderabad.
Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) is a government project and implemented by the Department of Land Resources of the Ministry of Rural Development. The main objective of IWMP is to improve the country's productive potential and ecological balance by harnessing, conserving and developing degraded natural resources such as soil, vegetative cover and water.
Under the programme 'Improving Rural Livelihoods through Farmer-centric Integrated Watershed Management,' POWERGRID undertook the establishment of "Model sites of Learning" in two locations in Kudgi (Karnataka) and Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh), of about 5,000 hectares each, for a period of 5 years (2013-14) for the following objectives:
