Cyclone Vayu: AAI has suspended flights at these 5 airports in Gujarat for 24 hrs

The airport directors of AAI’s Bhuj and Jamnagar airports have been asked to write to the Indian Air Force to suspend operations of civil flights from these two airports as well

New Delhi: In order to minimise damage to the airport infrastructure, ensure safety and avoid inconvenience to any of stakeholders due to the approaching Cyclone Vayu, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to suspend flight operations at its airports in Porbandar, Diu, Bhavnagar, Keshod and Kandla from 12 midnight IST today (12/06/2019) to 12 midnight IST tomorrow (13/06/2019), an official release said.

In view of the approaching cyclone, senior management at AAI took stock of the preparedness of airports in Gujarat on Wednesday through video conference at Corporate HQ in Delhi.

Airports prep to handle exigencies

The Regional Executive Director (Western Region), AAI, and all airport directors in Gujarat have been advised to be prepared to handle any exigency occurring out of this natural calamity and to issue appropriate NOTAM action, the release said. Equipment and heavy machinery have been moved to safety at respective airports and the airport directors of AAI's Bhuj and Jamnagar airports have been asked to write to the Indian Air Force to suspend operations of civil flights from these two airports as well.

A decision with respect to suspending operations at AAI's Surat airport will be taken after analysing the weather.
