ALH Dhruv helicopters cleared for Army, IAF operations following safety review

New Delhi: The Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv variants operated by the Indian Army and Indian Air Force have been cleared for operational use following recommendations by a Defect Investigation (DI) Committee, the Ministry of Defence announced on Thursday.

The clearance comes weeks after a clarification was issued on April 11, regarding the temporary grounding of the fleet. The Defence Ministry confirmed that a time-bound plan for the resumption of ALH operations has been formulated in coordination with the end-users.

Developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the ALH Dhruv is a multi-role, twin-engine utility helicopter that forms a critical part of India’s military aviation capabilities. The recent review was aimed at addressing safety concerns and implementing necessary corrective measures.

This operational clearance marks a key step toward restoring full mission readiness across both the Army Aviation Corps and the Indian Air Force's helicopter units, reinforcing confidence in indigenous defence platforms.
