

New Delhi: State-owned defence electronics major Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) on Tuesday said it has secured a contract worth Rs 1,251 crore (excluding taxes) from the Ministry of Defence for the supply of Ground Based Mobile Electronic Intelligence System (GBMES) to the Indian Army.

In a regulatory filing, the Navratna PSU said the GBMES is a state-of-the-art, fully indigenous system designed and developed by Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL), Hyderabad, and will be manufactured by BEL.

The system is a networked electronic intelligence platform capable of detecting, classifying and locating various types of radar signals. It can also intercept and analyse communication signals, significantly enhancing situational awareness and strengthening the air defence capabilities of the armed forces.
