
New Delhi/Bengaluru: Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has bagged a contract from the Indian Air Force for supply and service of Ashwini Radars. Total value of the contract is Rs 2,463 Cr (excluding taxes). The Navratna PSU signed the contract with the Ministry of Defence here in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The contract was signed by Dr Ajay Kumar, JS & AM (LS), MoD, and KV Suresh Kumar, Director (Marketing), BEL, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. Officials from Indian Air Force and Defence ministry Samir Kumar Sinha, DG (Acquisition), Sumit Kumar, US (MoD-Air Acquisition), Air Marshal Tejinder Singh and others were also present.
Ashwini Radars are fully indigenous Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radars, developed jointly by DRDO and BEL, have integrated Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) with electronic scanning in azimuth and elevation and are capable of 4D surveillance. These mobile radars with advanced Electronic Counter-CounterMeasures (ECCM) features are deployable on all terrains and can automatically detect and track aerial targets ranging from fighter aircraft to slow moving targets.
Numerous industry partners will participate in the production and supply of the radars. This order reflects the Hon'ble Prime Minister's vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
With this, BEL has now accumulated orders totalling Rs. 17,030 Cr in the current financial year.
