The foundation ceremony was presided over by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in the presence of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, and Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Senior government officials, including Defence Production Secretary Sanjeev Kumar, Joint Secretary Dr Garima Bhagat, and BEML CMD Shantanu Roy, also attended.

Spread over 148 acres, BRAHMA is envisioned as a world-class manufacturing hub for rolling stock, including passenger coaches, metro cars, Electrical Multiple Units, Vande Bharat trainsets, and high-speed rail systems. BEML will invest Rs 1,800 crore in phases to fully operationalise the facility, which is expected to generate over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs within five years.

The unit will begin with an annual production capacity of 125–200 coaches, scalable to 1,100 coaches over the next five years. It will integrate advanced manufacturing, design, assembly, and testing capabilities to cater to both domestic and export markets.

Speaking at the event, Rajnath Singh said the project marks a decisive step towards the Government’s Aatma Nirbhar Bharat vision. “With each such initiative, we move closer to a self-reliant ecosystem that fosters innovation, indigenous manufacturing, and national pride,” he said.

Chouhan emphasised the employment potential of the project, particularly for local youth, while Dr Mohan Yadav called it a catalyst for industrial growth and investment in Madhya Pradesh. Ashwini Vaishnaw noted that the unit will help realise Indian Railways’ Vision 2030 for modern and green mobility.

The BRAHMA facility will adopt green manufacturing practices, including zero liquid discharge systems, renewable energy integration, rainwater harvesting, and the use of sustainable building materials.

BEML CMD said, “BRAHMA is a symbol of BEML’s commitment to world-class engineering, sustainability, and future mobility. It will power innovations in high-speed trains and metro coaches, reinforcing India’s position as a global rail manufacturing hub.”

With BRAHMA, BEML aims to strengthen its leadership in mobility engineering while contributing significantly to India’s transport infrastructure, industrial growth, and export potential.
