BEML narrows Q1 net loss by 58 percent; board recommends revised final dividend of Rs 12.28 per share

New Delhi: State-run defence company BEML Limited on Friday reported a significant improvement in its financial performance for the first quarter of FY 2026-27, with its consolidated net loss narrowing by nearly 58 percent year-on-year. The company's Board also recommended a revised final dividend of Rs 12.28 per equity share for FY26.

BEML reported a net loss of Rs 27.01 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, compared with a net loss of Rs 64.11 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year, marking a 57.9 percent year-on-year improvement. On a sequential basis, however, the company slipped into the red after reporting a net profit of Rs 179.82 crore in the March quarter, reflecting the seasonally stronger fourth quarter performance.

Revenue from operations increased 29.2 percent year-on-year to Rs 819.62 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 633.99 crore a year earlier. Compared with the preceding quarter, revenue declined 54.3 percent from Rs 1,794.17 crore.

Total income rose 27.8 percent year-on-year to Rs 821.19 crore during the quarter but declined 54.4 percent sequentially from Rs 1,804.14 crore. Total expenses increased 19.9 percent to Rs 854.91 crore from Rs 712.84 crore in the year-ago period, while falling 45.2 percent quarter-on-quarter from Rs 1,559.19 crore.

The company reported a pre-tax loss of Rs 33.71 crore, compared with a pre-tax loss of Rs 70.28 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, reflecting an improvement of 52 percent. Sequentially, it swung from a pre-tax profit of Rs 244.95 crore reported in Q4 FY26.

Alongside the financial results, the Board of Directors recommended a revised final dividend of Rs 12.28 per equity share of face value Rs 5 each (246 percent) for FY26. The revised payout includes the final dividend of Rs 0.55 per share that was originally recommended by the Board on May 29, 2026.

Earlier this year, the company had also declared a second interim dividend of Rs 2.30 per equity share (46 percent) for FY26, in addition to the final dividend recommendation of Rs 0.55 per share. Prior to that, BEML had announced an interim dividend of Rs 2.50 per share in February 2026.

The company has maintained a consistent dividend payout track record over the years. Before undertaking a 1:2 stock split in November 2025, which reduced the face value of each equity share from Rs 10 to Rs 5, BEML had paid interim dividends of Rs 15 per share in May 2025 and Rs 5 per share in February 2025, along with a final dividend of Rs 15.50 per share for FY24.

Separately, BEML said its operational performance remained strong during the April-June quarter. Revenue from operations rose 29 percent year-on-year to Rs 820 crore, while the company returned to positive EBITDA of Rs 3 crore, marking its first positive quarterly EBITDA in the last ten years. Order inflow surged 172 percent year-on-year to Rs 1,181 crore, taking the company's total order book to Rs 16,284 crore as on June 30, 2026.
