

New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Wednesday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Field Training and Demonstration Centre at Burari plains in Delhi, aimed at strengthening India’s preparedness for radiological and nuclear emergencies.

The facility has been inaugurated by Samir V Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO.
The centre will function as a DRDO-CBRN Centre of Excellence and houses advanced infrastructure, including a dedicated radiological and nuclear test bed facility, heavy ion research facility, emergency medical response systems and real-time field response units.
Developed under the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), the facility is part of a broader initiative to establish a comprehensive CBRN Centre of Excellence. It is designed to train personnel from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and other agencies involved in disaster preparedness and crisis response.

Through specialised training programmes and workshops, INMAS aims to develop a skilled pool of responders equipped with the latest technologies and techniques to handle CBRN-related contingencies.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior DRDO officials, including Director General (Soldier Support Systems) Upendra Kumar Singh, Director General (Production Coordination & Services Interaction) Chandrika Kaushik, and Director General (Resource & Management) Ravindra Singh, along with other scientists and dignitaries.
