New Delhi: In a significant milestone for India’s defence indigenisation efforts, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy have successfully conducted a combat firing trial (with reduced explosive) of the indigenously designed Multi-Influence Ground Mine (MIGM). The test marks a major step forward in strengthening India’s underwater warfare capabilities.

The MIGM, an advanced underwater naval mine, has been developed by the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam, in collaboration with two other DRDO laboratories — High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune and Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), Chandigarh.

Designed to counter modern stealth platforms, both ships and submarines, the MIGM significantly enhances the Indian Navy’s strategic deterrence and operational readiness in undersea warfare. The system employs multiple sensors to detect and neutralise underwater threats with high precision.

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Visakhapatnam, and Apollo Microsystems Limited, Hyderabad, are the industry partners engaged in the production of the system, highlighting the growing participation of Indian defence manufacturing firms in critical technology development.

Complimenting DRDO, the Indian Navy, and industry partners, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh lauded the achievement, stating that the successful trial underscores India’s increasing self-reliance in defence technology and will further boost the Navy’s combat effectiveness in undersea domains.
