GRSE bags Rs 1,032 crore ONGC contract to build four platform supply vessels

New Delhi: State-owned Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) on Monday said that it has secured a Rs 1,032 crore contract from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC). According to an official statement, the contract is for the design, construction and delivery of four Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs).

GRSE said it received the Notification of Award (NOA) from ONGC on July 30 for the project, which is expected to strengthen India's offshore energy infrastructure while enhancing the country's indigenous shipbuilding capabilities.

The vessels will be built in accordance with the rules of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) and are intended to support offshore exploration and production operations. Each vessel will have an overall length of around 80 metres, a beam of 20 metres, a deadweight capacity of 3,000 tonnes, an endurance of 45+3 days and a clear deck area of approximately 650 square metres.

According to the company, the vessels will feature an advanced hybrid propulsion system comprising electrically driven azimuth thrusters and a Lithium-Ion Battery Energy Storage System. The battery system will support peak load management, spinning reserve, dynamic positioning operations and emergency response functions, improving operational efficiency while reducing environmental impact.

The order represents a diversification of GRSE's shipbuilding portfolio beyond its traditional defence business and strengthens its position in the offshore and commercial vessel market.
