

New Delhi/Kolkata: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) to form a consortium for participating in a major shipbuilding tender floated by the Shipping Corporation of India Limited (SCI). The MoU has been executed on Tuesday.
According to GRSE, the consortium has been formed to submit a joint bid in line with the terms and conditions specified in SCI’s tender. The collaboration is aimed at undertaking a large-scale and strategically significant national shipbuilding programme, strengthening India’s indigenous shipbuilding capabilities.
According to an official statement, the partnership envisages construction of advanced maritime platforms and is expected to contribute to enhancement of the country’s maritime infrastructure, technological self-reliance, and long-term operational capabilities .
The MoU has been signed by GRSE's Director (Shipbuilding) Commodore Shantanu Bose (Retd.), and HSL's Officiating Chairman and Managing Director (HSL) Captain Ganti Venkateswarlu (Retd.) in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.
GRSE stated that the collaboration will leverage the complementary strengths of both shipyards and aligns with the national vision of Atmanirbharta in shipbuilding by reinforcing indigenous maritime capability and collaborative execution of complex shipbuilding programmes .
GRSE is a defence PSU under the Ministry of Defence, while HSL is also a defence PSU with expertise in shipbuilding and ship repair.
