New Delhi: In a move aligned with the Centre’s Atmanirbharta and ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ initiatives, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) has entered into a strategic partnership with M/s K2 Cranes & Components Pvt Ltd for the design, development and manufacture of marine, defence and shipyard cranes and associated equipment.

The two companies have signed an on Wednesday, marking another step by the defence PSU towards diversification and expansion of its product portfolio beyond shipbuilding. The agreement has been signed by GRSE's Chief General Manager (BB&DEP) Cmde Ramesh Menon MS (Retd) and K2 Cranes & Components Pvt Ltd.'s Managing Director M Udayakumar.

The MoU has been signed in the presence of GRSE Chairman and Managing Director Cmde P R Hari, IN (Retd), along with Director (Shipbuilding) Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd), Director (Corporate Planning & Personnel) Capt (IN) P Sunilkumar (Retd), Director (Finance) Niranjan Bhalerao, and other senior officials from both organisations.

Under the agreement, the two entities will jointly explore and undertake business opportunities related to cranes and equipment required for marine, defence and shipyard applications in India as well as overseas markets. The initiative aims to promote indigenous manufacturing, reduce dependence on imports and cater to international customers.

GRSE said the collaboration would contribute to strengthening the country’s self-reliance in critical equipment and support India’s ambition of becoming a global manufacturing hub. Cranes and associated systems developed under the partnership will be manufactured indigenously.

While warship construction and building of marine platforms remain GRSE’s core business, the company has been steadily expanding its engineering portfolio. GRSE is a market leader in modular steel bridges in India and has delivered more than 5,900 such bridges to domestic and international clients.
