New Delhi/Visakhapatnam: In a major step towards strengthening workforce welfare, Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) has launched a Group Personal Accident (GPA) insurance policy to provide financial protection to its contract and hired personnel. The initiative, implemented in partnership with New India Assurance Co. Ltd., aims to extend accident insurance coverage to more than 2,500 individuals, including contract workers, apprentices, and trainees, in addition to the company’s regular employees.
Under the new policy, each covered individual will receive insurance protection of up to Rs 20 lakh in the event of a workplace accident. The move is being seen as a significant welfare measure targeted at the company’s extended workforce, many of whom operate under challenging conditions in shipbuilding and repair operations.
“Safety and well-being are paramount to HSL, serving as the foundation of its continued growth and success,” said Cmde Hemant Khatri, Chairman and Managing Director, HSL. He reiterated the organisation’s commitment to ensuring “Safety for All” across all levels of employment.
The initiative reflects HSL’s broader philosophy of inclusive growth and its recognition of the vital role played by its contract and auxiliary workforce in achieving operational targets. By implementing a uniform insurance policy irrespective of employment type, HSL aims to create a more secure and equitable workplace environment.
HSL, a Ministry of Defence undertaking, has been steadily enhancing its employee welfare initiatives in line with its strategic expansion and modernisation plans.
