PB Rangarao takes charge as Director (Operations) of HAL

PB Rangarao has assumed charge as Director (Operations) of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on October 28

New Delhi: PB Rangarao has assumed charge as Director (Operations) of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the defence public sector undertaking, on October 28. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HAL's Helicopter Complex.

Rangarao joined HAL as a Design Trainee in 1995 and has over three decades of experience with the company. During his career, he has held key positions across plant maintenance, Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) manufacturing, Cheetah and Chetak projects, outsourcing and production planning. Before becoming CEO of the Helicopter Complex, he served as Executive Director of HAL's Helicopter Division.

He has played a key role in strengthening HAL's helicopter manufacturing capabilities, including operationalising the new Helicopter Division at Tumakuru and enabling the production rollout of the first batch of Light Utility Helicopters (LUH). He also oversaw the commissioning of Limited Series Production (LSP) bases for the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) for the Indian Army and Indian Air Force.

Rangarao was instrumental in concluding the contract for 25 ALH Mk III helicopters for the Indian Army and signing the contract for 156 LCH Prachand helicopters for the Army and the Air Force.

His contributions also include re-establishing supply chains for Cheetah and Chetak helicopters following the closure of Airbus facilities in France, expanding production capacity through public-private partnerships, addressing obsolescence through indigenisation initiatives and streamlining manufacturing processes to improve the production efficiency of ALH components.

PB Rangarao set to be next Director (Operations) of HAL

Rangarao holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Regional Engineering College, Warangal, and a postgraduate diploma in Business Management from XIME, Bengaluru. He has also completed a Leadership Development Programme at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.
