Nimmaluru/Bengaluru: In a major boost to India’s defence manufacturing capabilities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday dedicated Bharat Electronics Limited’s (BEL) Advanced Night Vision Products Factory to the nation at Nimmaluru, Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh. The facility has been set up at an investment of around Rs 362 crore by the Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking.

The inauguration ceremony has been attended by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu, the Governor of Andhra Pradesh S Abdul Nazeer, and the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Pawan Kalyan. BEL CMD Manoj Jain and BEL's GM (DCCS) Jitendra Singh were also present on the occasion.

The new facility underscores India’s strides towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing and is aimed at meeting the country’s growing requirement for advanced night enablement systems. The factory will produce a range of electro-optic systems, including night vision devices, infrared seekers for indigenously developed missiles, and various anti-drone systems.

Spread across 50 acres, the Nimmaluru factory will focus on the production of Image Intensifiers, Thermal Imaging Systems, and other electro-optical products vital for surveillance, reconnaissance, and combat operations in low-light and nighttime conditions.

The facility has been designed to integrate advanced manufacturing technologies, including Industry 4.0 features, to enhance productivity, reduce lead times, and ensure superior quality standards. A dedicated Clean Room area of 5,800 sqm ensures a contamination-free environment for the assembly and testing of high-precision opto-electronic components.

BEL’s new plant marks a significant milestone in its journey toward becoming a global leader in opto-electronics and next-generation night vision technologies, strengthening India’s indigenous defence ecosystem while creating high-skilled employment opportunities in the region.
