New Delhi: The government has extended the services of Dr Harsh Kumar Bhanwala, Chairman of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), on December 20, for the next six months with effect from December 18. Dr Bhanwala has been serving as the Chairman of NABARD since December 18, 2013. He was set to superannuate on December 18 this year.
Dr Bhanwala is a post-graduate in Management from IIM Ahmedabad and also holds a PhD in Management. He has been awarded an honorary doctorate in Science by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore.
Dr Bhanwala has consistently espoused the cause of enhancing farmers' income through creation of Agri and irrigation infrastructure viz. under Long Term Irrigation Fund, Micro Irrigation Fund, Dairy Processing and Infrastructure Development Fund etc. Under his leadership, NABARD received accreditation as National Implementing Entity by the Adaptation Fund Board & Green Climate Fund (GCF) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) is an Apex Development Financial Institution of the government. The Bank has been entrusted with "matters concerning Policy Planning and Operations in the field of credit for Agriculture and other Economic activities in Rural areas in India". NABARD is active in developing the Financial Inclusion policy.
