EIL floats global tender for Lignite-to-Methanol project for NLC

New Delhi: As a diversification initiative, NLC India Limited (NLCIL) is setting up a Lignite-to-Methanol project at Neyveli with a capacity of 1,200 TPD (0.40 MTPA) at a capital cost of about Rs 4,400 crore. Engineers India Limited (EIL) is a Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the project.

"As the world moves towards cleaner forms of energy and India, being a signatory to the Paris Agreement, 2016, has pledged to attain a reduction in the emissions intensity of GDP by 33-35 percent by 2030 from the 2005 level and to become carbon neutral to achieve net zero emissions by the year 2070. This project is aligning with the commitment of Hon'ble Prime Minister's vision under 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' to achieve the target of 100 MT coal gasification by 2030 for eco-friendly utilisation of the fuel, which is abundantly available in the country," said a statement.

NLC Lignite-to-Methanol project to be commissioned in 2027: EIL

"On October 22, a global tender enquiry is floated for NLCIL through Project Management Consultant EIL, for Gasification block (LEPC-1) of Lignite-to-Methanol project in the august presence of Dr Anil Kumar Jain, Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Coal, Amit Lal Meena, Officer on Special Duty, Ministry of Coal, Rakesh Kumar, CMD, NLCIL along with Vartika Shukla, CMD, EIL, and other Directors of both NLCIL and EIL in New Delhi. This Project is expected to be commissioned during 2027.
