Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), the ruling party in India, also shared a picture where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tesla CEO Elon Musk are seen together in 2015 in California's San Jose in the US. Taking to a post on photo and video sharing social networking site, Instagram, the BJP said, "Replug: PM @narendramodi interacting with the CEO of Tesla in San Jose in 2015."
ALthough Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa already had confirmed in a tweet earlier this week that the carmaker is setting up an R&D unit in Bengaluru. "Karnataka will lead India's journey towards Green Mobility. Electric Vehicle Manufacturer Tesla will soon start its operations in India with an R&D unit in Bengaluru. I welcome Elon Musk to India and Karnataka and wish him all the very best," he wrote.
Earlier Maharashtra govt had claimed that the state govt is in talks with Tesla officials and is expecting investment from the tech-behemoth. Karnataka, however, trumped Maharashtra in the race to bag Tesla.
The electric automaker has registered its Indian subsidiary under the name "Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Ltd". The company is expected to start operations by June.
