BES 2026: REC, PFC host vendor development session

New Delhi: REC Limited and Power Finance Corporation (PFC) jointly organised a high-level Vendor Development Session at the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, focusing on advancing the ‘Make in India’ initiative in the power distribution segment.

Titled “Advancing Make in India for Power Distribution,” the session brought together more than 150 senior representatives from key government bodies, including the Ministry of Power, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and Central Electricity Authority, along with leading distribution companies (DISCOMs), OEMs, vendors, suppliers, and industry associations. KPMG acted as the Knowledge Partner for the session.

The session was chaired by Joint Secretary (Distribution), Ministry of Power, Shashank Misra. Opening remarks were delivered by T. S. C. Bosh, Director (Projects), REC Limited, who outlined the importance of strengthening domestic capabilities in power distribution.

Industry perspectives were presented by the Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers' Association, while leading DISCOMs shared best practices in areas such as SCADA indigenisation and the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in power distribution systems.

A panel discussion featuring senior officials, including Pranav Tayal (Director, Ministry of Power), Saurav Kumar Shah (Executive Director, PFC), and Prabhat Kumar Singh (Executive Director, REC), highlighted India’s readiness to enhance domestic manufacturing and build resilient supply chains in the sector.

The panel emphasised scaling proven DISCOM practices such as compact substations, planned underground cabling with GIS-based fault management, and integration of SCADA, DMS, and OMS systems, along with real-time data acquisition systems (RT-DAS). It also identified critical gaps in import-dependent materials and stressed the need to strengthen standards, interoperability, and testing infrastructure to ensure reliability at scale.

The session concluded with closing remarks by Ravi Dhawan, Director (Distribution), Ministry of Power.
