New Delhi: In a significant step towards fostering gender inclusivity, the BEML Women’s Welfare Foundation (BWWF) organized a thought-provoking panel discussion on “The Role of Men in Women’s Empowerment” to mark International Women’s Day. The event brought together industry leaders, policy advocates, and change-makers to deliberate on how men can actively contribute to breaking gender barriers and creating an inclusive society.

Steven Connolly, Deputy Consul General, High Commission of Australia, Bengaluru, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, alongside Piyali Roy, Patron-In-Chief of BWWF.

The panel featured distinguished speakers, including Dr. Sowjanya Vashistha, psychologist and Kannada TV host; Nimmou Nilkanthan, author and educationist; Raghavi Pratap, corporate lawyer; Sona Kumar, advocate at the High Court of Karnataka; and Ashika, trustee of Aweksha Trust.

The discussion delved into corporate policies, cultural shifts, and social frameworks necessary for empowering women, with a particular focus on men’s role as allies in leadership, workplaces, and communities.

Addressing the gathering, Piyali Roy emphasized the importance of shared responsibility, stating, “True empowerment happens when men become active participants in breaking gender biases, not just silent supporters.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Connolly highlighted that “Gender equality is a collective mission. Organizations must institutionalize inclusivity to make gender parity the norm.”

As a charitable trust, BWWF reaffirmed its commitment to promoting gender equity, protecting women’s rights, and fostering meaningful leadership at a global level. The event underscored the necessity of collaborative efforts in creating a more equitable and inclusive society.
