New Delhi: The shipping ministry has changed the venue of the prestigious maritime event Global Maritime India Summit (GMIS 2023). The decision came when it is just a month to go for the event. Originally, the event was supposed to take place at the Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi from October 17 to October 19, 2023. Now the summit will take place in Mumbai at MMRDA Ground, Bandra Kurla Complex.
According to ministry sources the decision to change the venue has been taken looking at Mumbai's significance in maritime trade. Also, the new location aligns better with the theme and spirit of the summit, they said.
GMIS 2023 is India's premier maritime sector event that brings together pivotal figures from the industry to explore opportunities, understand challenges, and stimulate investment within India's maritime sector. Building upon the legacy of its preceding editions, this third instalment aims to unveil broader prospects for domestic and international maritime stakeholders and investors.
The new location of GMIS 2023, Mumbai has two major ports: Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Mumbai Port. Mumbai port is located on the mainland of west Mumbai and has contributed significantly to developing India’s maritime infrastructure. Jawaharlal Nehru Port on the Arabian Sea is positioned within Navi Mumbai’s Raigad district and is accessible via Thane Creek Bridge. Being twin port city, Mumbai holds monumental importance when it comes to maritime trade.
