New Delhi: Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervour at its Kolkata facilities, reaffirming its commitment to self-reliance in defence production and expansion into green maritime technologies.

GRSE's Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd.) unfurled the national flag and inspected a ceremonial guard of honour presented by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The event was attended by GRSE's Director (Shipbuilding) Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd.); Director (Corporate Planning & Personnel) Capt (IN) P Sunilkumar (Retd.); CVO Abhishek Ranjan, senior CISF officials, and senior management of GRSE.

In his address, Cmde Hari lauded the CISF’s role in ensuring the security of GRSE’s facilities and underscored the importance of Atmanirbharta and technological advancement in shipbuilding. Referring to “Operation Sindoor” as a testament to India’s self-reliance policy, he said, “There can be no substitute for home-grown technologies in safeguarding our sovereignty.”

Highlighting the shipyard’s robust order book, he noted that GRSE currently has 40 vessels under construction — including 14 warships for the Indian Navy, 9 export vessels, and 17 domestic commercial vessels. The projects range from advanced naval platforms to zero-emission and hybrid-propulsion ships, reflecting the company’s growing focus on green and sustainable technologies.

“The coming years will see GRSE delivering several warships while expanding its commercial vessel portfolio and extending our expertise in eco-friendly platforms,” Cmde Hari added.
