
New Delhi: Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), a premier Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU), has been awarded the prestigious SCOPE Eminence Award 2022–23 in the category of Women Empowerment. The honour was conferred by the Hon'ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
The award was presented to GSL's Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay in recognition of the shipyard’s pioneering initiatives in fostering gender equality and empowering women employees. The ceremony was also attended by Priya Bhagat, DGM (HR), and Ashwila Shetgaonkar, SM (HR), representing GSL’s women workforce.
The President commended GSL for its commitment to creating an inclusive work environment, with policies that support women’s participation in leadership roles. In her address, she highlighted that the SCOPE Eminence Awards recognise public sector enterprises that exemplify excellence across multiple dimensions, including social equity, governance, innovation, and sustainable growth.
In her remarks, President Murmu stated, “The true measure of a progressive enterprise lies not only in its technological and economic achievements but in its commitment to social responsibility. Initiatives like those taken by Goa Shipyard Limited contribute to the vision of an inclusive, gender-equal society in line with the Government of India’s ‘Viksit Bharat’ mission.”
The SCOPE Eminence Award, established by the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), honours public sector enterprises that excel in driving national development, corporate governance, and sustainable growth.
Goa Shipyard Limited has long been a frontrunner in promoting women’s empowerment through leadership training, skill development, and welfare measures for female employees. This recognition underscores GSL's dedication to advancing gender inclusivity and empowering women within the workforce.
