HPCL and Oil India join hands to develop compressed bio-gas project

New Delhi: Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Oil India Limited (OIL) have entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at India Energy Week (IEW) 2026 to collaborate on the development of a Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) project, marking a significant step towards advancing India’s clean energy and waste-to-energy initiatives.

This MoU provides a framework for joint efforts between the two public sector undertakings to promote cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.

Under the collaboration, Oil India Limited will implement a CBG plant using HPCL’s indigenously developed HP RAMP technology, which enables efficient conversion of waste into compressed bio-gas. HPCL will provide the requisite technology support, while OIL will leverage its operational expertise for the execution of the project.

The partnership is aligned with national objectives of fostering a circular economy, reducing carbon emissions, and strengthening the domestic bio-energy ecosystem through indigenous technological solutions.

The initiative is expected to contribute to sustainable energy development while reinforcing the role of public sector enterprises in driving innovation and environmental stewardship within the country’s energy landscape.
