New Delhi: NMDC Limited has set a target to produce 60 million tonnes (MT) of iron ore in FY27 and 100 MT by 2030, following a record production of 53.15 MT in FY26.

Addressing the 80th Independence Day celebrations at NMDC’s Corporate Office in Hyderabad, Chairman and Managing Director Amitava Mukherjee said the company has a vital role in strengthening India’s mineral security, industrial growth and self-reliance.

NMDC became the first mining company in India to produce more than 50 MT of iron ore in a single year in FY26, recording production of 53.15 MT and sales of 50.23 MT. The growth momentum continued in Q1 FY27, with production rising 26 percent year-on-year to 15.12 MT. Sales stood at 11.73 MT, while turnover increased 2 percent to Rs 6,795 crore.

The company is undertaking initiatives to enhance production capacity, improve operational efficiency and strengthen infrastructure to achieve its production targets. NMDC is also expanding beyond iron ore into coal, steel and strategic minerals. Its first coal asset, the Tokisud North Coal Mine in Jharkhand, has been operationalised, while commissioning of Deposit-4 and Deposit-13 at Bailadila is expected to strengthen processing capacity.

NMDC’s Nagarnar Steel Plant has crossed 7 MT of cumulative hot metal production and reported profits for two consecutive quarters, including a Q1 FY27 profit after tax of Rs 50.51 crore.

Highlighting NMDC’s social initiatives, Mukherjee said the company’s Balika Shiksha Yojana has supported the higher education of 783 young women, while 22 students are expected to secure MBBS admissions this year under the Chhoo Lo Aasmaan initiative.

The Independence Day celebrations were also held across NMDC’s mining units and offices. Awards were presented to winners of the NMDC Chess Tournament 2026, while employees participated in various Independence Day games.
