NRDC and IISc host national workshop on strategic IP commercialization to mark World IP Day 2025

New Delhi: In celebration of World Intellectual Property (IP) Day 2025, the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, hosted a National Workshop titled “Driving Innovation with IP: Strategic Approaches to Commercialization.”

The workshop was held at the iconic Faculty Hall of the IISc heritage building in Bengaluru. It brought together a diverse group of over 250 in-person attendees and more than 500 virtual participants from academia, research institutions, startups, industry, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), and government bodies.

The event was co-organised with several prominent institutions including IIIT Bangalore, Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI), Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), Central Silk Board, BeST Cluster, IPTel, and IISc. The primary focus of the workshop was to foster a robust dialogue on strategic IP management, promote innovation-led growth, and explore pathways for effective technology commercialization.

By convening stakeholders from across the innovation ecosystem, the workshop aimed to enhance national capabilities in IP-driven research and entrepreneurship. Sessions highlighted practical approaches to protecting intellectual assets, leveraging IP for competitive advantage, and aligning innovation strategies with market needs.

World IP Day, celebrated annually on April 26, recognizes the role that intellectual property rights play in encouraging innovation and creativity. This year’s theme — “Driving Innovation with IP” — underscores the importance of integrating IP into the national innovation agenda.
