New Delhi/Bongaigaon: NTPC Bongaigaon organised a three-day Management Development Programme (MDP) on “Practicing Strategic Leadership” for its mid-level executives, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong, from January 19 to January 21. The initiative was aimed at strengthening leadership capabilities and equipping executives with contemporary tools to effectively address evolving organisational and people-centric challenges.
The programme was inaugurated by Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, who underscored the importance of strategic leadership in today’s complex and dynamic work environment. He noted that focused capacity-building initiatives such as this play a critical role in developing leaders capable of aligning NTPC’s organisational objectives with innovation, empathy and long-term sustainability.
Academic sessions were conducted by Dr. Sitanshu Shekhar Das and Dr. Priya Alat, Assistant Professors in Organisational Behaviour and Human Resources at IIM Shillong. The faculty provided in-depth insights into contemporary leadership practices using the SMILE Framework, which emphasises Strategic thinking, Motivation levels, Innovation, Learning agility and Empathetic leadership. The sessions also examined leadership approaches required to effectively manage and engage Gen Z and Gen Alpha in increasingly fast-paced and complex work environments.
A total of 23 executives from diverse cross-functional domains at NTPC Bongaigaon participated in the programme, enabling rich peer learning and exchange of experiences. Participants presented case studies based on real-life workplace scenarios and engaged in interactive discussions with the faculty on strategic decision-making, leadership challenges and effective people management.
The programme offered valuable insights into the importance of active listening in leadership, managing human capital and fostering a culture of trust, empathy and continuous learning. The interactive and experiential learning approach reaffirmed NTPC Bongaigaon’s commitment to leadership development and continuous improvement as key enablers of organisational excellence.
