The occasion reaffirmed NTPC's commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity, transparency and accountability in its operations. The pledge also highlighted the importance of promoting ethical values and strengthening a work culture built on trust, responsibility and good governance.
Vigilance Awareness Week is not just about raising a voice against corruption; it also aims to encourage systems and practices that minimise the scope for irregularities and ensure transparency in decision-making. The initiative emphasises making integrity an essential part of both individual responsibility and an organisation's work culture.
The pledge-taking ceremony at NTPC reflected the organisation's commitment to these principles. The company reiterated the importance of honesty, transparency and accountability as key pillars of good governance and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding ethical standards.
The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) initiated the observance of Vigilance Awareness Week in 2000. The week is observed around October 31, the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who is remembered for his contribution to India's unity and the development of a strong administrative framework.
The primary objective of the observance is to raise public awareness about corruption and promote integrity, transparency and accountability in public life. It also encourages officials and employees of government institutions and public sector organisations to discharge their duties fairly, honestly and responsibly.
