Rourkela: The Computer & Information Technology (C&IT) department collective of SAIL's Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has once again showcased its efficiency and enterprising spirit by developing and putting in place software solutions so as to help the Plant adopt changes in view of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

It is worth mentioning here that to prevent the Coronavirus outbreak, lots of changes have been made in the duty hours of the employees. Employees with medical complications are being allowed to work from home, while staggered duty hours or roaster duties have been put in place. At a particular point of time 40 to 60 percent of employees from different departments are being allowed to work from home. As this kind of situation has happened for the first time and that's also so suddenly, a number of manoeuvring has to be done to keep track of the attendance of the employees.

The daily attendance of the executives, non-executives and contract labour in different shifts, as well as those who are availing Work from Home, has to be registered and also to sent to the Corporate Office on a regular basis as per a directive. The compilation of the data used to take around three hours per shift. Hence the C&IT department took up the challenge to develop the software solution for recording attendance.

An on-line daily attendance status system was developed by C&IT department with the help of the Personnel Department within a day and the link was provided in the RSP portal on March 31. The system has enabled the real-time feeding of attendance by all departments and generation of attendance report from the system by the personnel department for sending it to Corporate Office on a daily basis. RSP's DPO (C&IT) Jojan Joju Das developed the system under the guidance from GM (E&A) Samarendra Behera.

Besides, to record the attendance of employees with work from home status, the OAMS (Online Attendance Management System) was modified. A new provision for work from home was made available with specific shifts in which the employee have been assigned to work from home. Ramesh Kumar Sabat, DPO (C&IT) implemented the required changes in the OAMS system within a day under the guidance of AGM (C&IT) Sanjay Kumar Gautam.
