New Delhi: The Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and GIZ, Germany, organised an outreach workshop on the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT), a global initiative focused on driving industrial decarbonisation and promoting sustainable growth in the heavy industry sector.
The workshop witnessed the participation of senior government officials, industry leaders, and international representatives from Sweden and Germany. Key dignitaries who addressed the gathering included Atul Sobti, Director General, SCOPE; Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director, BEML and Member, SCOPE Executive Board; Tajender Gupta, Director (Power), BHEL; Ruchika Drall, Deputy Secretary (Climate Change), MoEFCC; Cecilia Tall, Counsellor (Innovation & Science), Embassy of Sweden; Sebastian Borchmeyer, First Secretary, Embassy of Germany; and Dr. Alexander Fisher, Project Lead, International Climate Initiative (IKI), GIZ.
The discussions centred on leveraging the LeadIT platform to foster international collaboration, promote technological innovation, and explore financing mechanisms to accelerate the transition of heavy industries toward low-emission operations. The initiative aims to strengthen cooperation between governments and industries in developing pathways for achieving global climate goals.
The event drew participation from over 40 representatives of nearly 20 public and private sector organisations, reflecting the growing commitment across sectors to align with India’s and the global community’s climate ambitions.
Launched at the UN Climate Action Summit in 2019, LeadIT is supported by the World Economic Forum and seeks to create synergy among countries and companies in achieving net-zero carbon emissions from heavy industries by 2050.
