New Delhi: Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) organised an interaction programme of Senior Executives of Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) with Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) on December 4. At the programme, Chief Information Commissioner Sudhir Bhargava interacted with the PSEs Executives on the range of issues pertaining to recent provisions of the RTI Act and concerns in implementing the amended RTI Act. In his address to PSEs, Bhargava said that Right to Information (RTI) is at the heart of Indian democracy and it facilitates people's participation in governance.

SCOPE's Director-General Atul Sobti also addressed the gathering. While appreciating the act as the most progressive legislation, Sobti pointed out that PSEs need a level playing field in the current volatile business environment. NTPC's Director (HR) & Member of SCOPE Executive Board Saptarshi Roy also presented his views on the RTI Act. The interaction saw the presence of a large number of representations from 43 PSEs.

SCOPE

Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) of Public Sector Undertakings. SCOPE is born out of a registered society called 'New Horizon' that was set up in New Delhi on September 29, 1970. The basic objective of New Horizon was promoting "better understanding among the public about the individual and collective contribution of the public sector". Later New Horizon was rechristened as Standing Conference of Public Enterprises or SCOPE. SCOPE's activities are aimed at strengthening the PSEs by making them more efficient and effective and at the same time encouraging them to explore new horizons in the global market.
