New Delhi: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has launched an HPV Vaccination Campaign under its flagship health initiative, Mission Sanjeevani. The campaign, which aims to safeguard women employees and their female family members from cervical cancer, has been officially inaugurated at the Indira Vihar Health Centre in SECL Headquarters by Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Harish Duhan.

The launch event saw the presence of SECL Director (Human Resources) Biranchi Das, Director (Finance) D. Sunil Kumar, Chief Vigilance Officer Himanshu Jain, President of Shraddha Mahila Mandal and First Lady of SECL Shashi Duhan, Vice President Anita Franklin, CMS Dr Pratibha Pathak, CMS Dr. Shruti Dev Mishra, senior officials, union representatives, and employees.

CMD Duhan underscored the significance of the campaign, stating, “This is a major step toward preventive healthcare for women. SECL remains committed to the wellbeing of its employees and their families, and initiatives like these will continue to be our priority.”

Targeting girls and women between the ages of 9 and 26, the campaign aims to vaccinate against Human Papillomavirus (HPV)—a major cause of cervical cancer. The company is using the Nonavalent HPV vaccine, which is known to reduce the risk of cervical cancer by up to 90 percent. Over 2,400 individuals have registered for vaccination in the campaign’s first phase.

In what could be a first among Coal India subsidiaries, SECL has deployed a dedicated digital portal to manage the vaccination campaign. This platform enables end-to-end digital tracking, including beneficiary identification, dose scheduling, certification, and real-time monitoring.

“This initiative is not only a step forward in healthcare but also a demonstration of how digital tools can be effectively used in public health campaigns,” said Director (HR) Biranchi Das. “Our aim is to make the process transparent, streamlined, and accessible.”

Cervical cancer remains a significant public health issue in India, with approximately 1.25 lakh new cases and over 70,000 deaths annually. As one of the few preventable cancers, early vaccination and regular screening play a critical role in reducing its impact.

The campaign is aligned with SECL’s inclusive health policy and demonstrates its ongoing commitment to women’s empowerment and proactive employee welfare.
