New Delhi: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) celebrated the 76th Republic Day on January 26, with great zeal and enthusiasm at its Indora premises. The event was marked by a ceremonial flag hoisting by the company’s Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) JP Dwivedi, who also inspected the security parade.

In his address to team WCL, CMD JP Dwivedi highlighted the company’s exceptional performance during the ongoing financial year. Sharing the production figures as of January 25, he announced that WCL achieved a coal production of 51.21 million tonnes, a 2.1 percent increase compared to the same period last year. He emphasized that this is the highest coal production by WCL during this timeframe in any financial year since its inception.

The CMD further elaborated on the company’s achievements in coal dispatch and overburden removal. WCL dispatched 54.21 million tonnes of coal and removed 289.58 million cubic meters of overburden as of January 25, showcasing remarkable operational efficiency. He expressed confidence that WCL would successfully achieve its annual targets for coal production, dispatch, and overburden removal.

The event was graced by the presence of senior officials, including Director (Technical-Operations) AK Singh, Director (Finance/Personnel) Bikram Ghosh, Director (Technical-Planning & Projects) Anandji Prasad, Chief Vigilance Officer Ajay Madhukar Mhetre, and other dignitaries. Jhankar Mahila Mandal representatives, including Chairperson Abha Dwivedi, Vice Chairperson Indu Singh, and Dr Sonali Mhetre, also attended the celebration.

A key highlight of the Republic Day event was the vibrant and creative tableaux presented by various operational areas of WCL. The Majri Area's tableau was awarded first prize, followed by the Nagpur Area in second place, and the joint tableau of Pench and Kanhan Areas securing the third prize.
