New Delhi: State-run OMCs (Oil Marketing Companies) — IndianOil, HPCL and BPCL — have begun transferring the retail selling price of cylinders in the bank account of Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries, which can be withdrawn to obtain refill from a distributor, the Petroleum Ministry said on Friday. The news comes just a week after the government announced three free cylinders for Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries over the next three months, starting April, as part of a relief package to fight Coronavirus pandemic. “Our OMCs have begun transferring the retail selling price of cylinders in the bank account of #PMUY beneficiaries, which can be withdrawn to obtain the refill from the distributor. A #PMUY consumer is entitled to 3 refills in case of 14.2kg cylinder & 8 refills for 5kg cylinders,” the ministry said on Twitter.

Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan interacted with hundreds of DNOs (District Nodal Officers) of OMCs on Friday to assess the distribution of LPG cylinders in districts following the Coronavirus outbreak and the subsequent lockdown.  These DNOs are responsible for LPG deliveries in their assigned areas. Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, MM Kutty, and other senior officers of the Ministry and all three OMCs attended the webinar.

‘Ujjwala Yojana will be a key player in India’s fight against COVID 19’

In his interaction through a video conference, Pradhan said that Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which established itself as a major vehicle of social change, will again emerge as a key player in India’s fight against the spread of the novel Coronavirus. He also highlighted the various features of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana scheme for the PMUY beneficiaries, such as availability of up to three refills for 14.2 kg cylinders and advance Retail Selling Price being transferred by OMCs to the PMUY customer’s bank account, which can be withdrawn to obtain the refill from the distributor. He instructed to ensure seamless implementation of this scheme.
