Go Green: GRSE introduces 14 electric vehicles for local commute

Kolkata: As part of the green energy drive, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE) put in use 14 Electric Vehicles (EVs) for local commute by officials. With a vision to reduce carbon emissions and protect the environment, GRSE is promoting the use of electrical vehicles as the company is committed to a cleaner and greener future for India.

The environment-friendly e-vehicles have been procured from Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). The adoption of e-vehicles is a step towards the "The Go Electric Campaign" initiative of the government. The use of these electric vehicles would also create awareness of e-mobility and provide a thrust to 'Atmanirbharta' by boosting the confidence of indigenous Electric Vehicle manufacturers.

GRSE's Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) RAdm VK Saxena IN (Retd.) flagged off the electric vehicles from GRSE Bhavan, Kolkata in the august presence of GRSE's Director (Shipbuilding) Cmde Sanjeev Nayyar, Director (Personnel) Cmde PR Hari, Director (Finance) RK Dash, EESL's Regional Cluster Head (East) Sudeep Bhar and senior officials of GRSE.

Addressing guests and GRSE personnel at the flagging off ceremony, Saxena stated that the electrification of public transport is not only economical but also eco-friendly and therefore need of the hour. He further stated that as economic development leads to rapid urbanization, Electric Vehicles shall help in reducing local concentrations of pollutants in the city and reduce dependence on imported crude oil. 'Global Warming' has also given rise to the need for a reduction in the use of fossil fuels and associated emissions. He also added that GRSE is exploring the use of green technology onboard maritime platforms.

In June 2021, GRSE had also adopted the latest technology for enhancing the security of infrastructure and other assets by commissioning an Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled high-end CCTV network across its five units in Kolkata. The state-of-the-art technology will enable surveillance of the 152.81-acre area of the shipyard to ensure 24×7 safety and security of all its premises.
